2011-05-29 - Roatan Trip 29 5 2011
5/29/2011 We left last Tuesday at 4 am to get on a fairy to Roatan. It supposed to be the best scuba slash snorkel inland ever. We had a hard time finding a place to park our car. Honduras is famous for no signs. Or they post then inside the buildings. We got on board the boat, I talk to a student and that wanted to speak English and so I gave him the sister’s phone number to call. We had called the sister earlier this week and they arranged a taxi that would only charge us 20 dollars to get to the hotel. Nice guy, had a family, not member but knew the sisters. Apparently the hotel is called banana rama and it is the best place to scuba and snorkel. West beach is the best beach on the inland and it was just around the corner from our hotel. The sand feels like Hawaii and the water was very clear and beautiful. That evening was inquiring about a bus when someone said in Spanish. There are no buses that go this far down and I am going to town you can go with me. I said okay. WE found out later he was a return mission and worked in the hotel. WE got a chance to meet another member that worked in the office of the hotel. We actually registered her on ldsjobs.org on Thursday. We saw the place the cruise ship was going to dock, went to the store and I stopped a taxi and ask how much to take me back to the hotel. He said 50 limps which is about $2.50 in dollars. I said okay, I will give you 200 limps. After this was all said and done I felt kind of dumb. \Yes I gave him 200 limps. Which was $10.00 dollars. The next morning we went to the port to get charity and Russ. Its was as beautiful day in the neighborhood and there was charity. It was a great to see charity and Russ. We took them back to our hotel. They rented a boat, caught some tuna, went to lunch at west beach, snorkel and took the kayaks out. I hope they had fun. We did. It was hard to see them leave. That night we met this wonderful gal that was a waitress at the hotel . She just came up to us and started talking about the church. I ask her about the taxi thing and she says she pays only 50 limps but charge more for the foreigners. She invited us for lunch. The next day we ate lunch and I adjusted her son that was born with a short leg. That night we met the Branch president and registered him on ldsjobs.org and some other members. Late night. Walk down the block and we tried to get another taxi but all of them said 20 dollars. We called our waitress and she order a taxis for us for 50 limps. The next morning we left at 5 am to catch the fairy back to mainland. The taxi driver hit me for 300 limps. When we got to the mainland I went to pick up my car and they only took cash. I had barely enough cash even with my single dollar I kept since we got here to give to a police if we got pulled over. Blessings I thought. I was sure glad to get my car. NO more screw the foreigners deal. That night we had a meeting with the La Ceiba stake. We were going to teach English class and sign up members after on ldsjobs.org. but no one showed up except about three which we signed up. He was the stake secretary. We took the elders to diner to pizza hut. The next morning we got up a 8am,,,, p day…. And drove 2.5 hours to olanchito. Had a meeting with the district president and the branch presidents there. Some had to drive 3 hours to get there one way. \I was amazed how dedicated these members are. We had a black out and no electricity. We left to drive back to our hotel and the road was block, after driving all around and getting lost a couple of times we Findlay ask a police officer where to go. He told us and as we drove down the street we realized that a parade was coming down the street we were on. We had to pull over and let the marching band go by and then try to drive down the street to get past the other floats. I felt like we were in a movie or something. We got the stake center and had another meeting to talk with the Stake president about calling a senior couple to work in an employment center in La Ceiba. We took the other missionaries out to diner to Wendy’s. The next morning we drove to Tela and had another meeting with the branch president and some member to register them on ldsjob.org. This was very tiring but I feel worth the trip. Some days seem very busy. Lv you guys. Dad
