Letter To My Children I want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas. I hope you have the Christmas Spirit. I’ve been thinking about why I haven’t liked Christmas very much these past few years. I haven’t decorated much or felt that Christmas Spirit. I figured out why, I think, besides the fact that all my kids are grown up, I think that part of it is that I know it’s all going to be over. The Christmas music will stop, the decorations will be put away and whatever family that was with us for the Christmas holiday will return home. Everything I anticipated will be over, so I guess I just kind of sub conscientiously became a bit of a scrooge. I was thinking today that even though I have the gospel and am reminded each day I study the scriptures or hear a hymn or a talk by one of our leaders that Christ is my Savior and has given me more than I am worthy to receive, I still miss Christmas. The songs, the lights, the feeling that most of the world is kinder. This year will be different. I already regret being that scrooge the past few years. I regret not treasuring each and every Christmas I have had with you. You all grew up so fast. I miss having you as little ones and even as teenagers. You are and always will be my greatest blessing. I was reading in the Book of Mormon where Christ is asking his disciples what they desire of him before he ascends back to the Father. Nine of them desired to live unto the age of man and then to return to live with our Heavenly Father and Christ. The other three of course, desired to live upon the earth until the second coming of our Lord. What an unselfish desire. Both were great desires. I thought as I read that, that my desire would have been to have my family forever. That’s all I want. And basically, I intend to get it. Being so far away from you now and not seeing you has made my desire all the greater. I can barely handle being away from you a year and half, there’s no way I’ll be able to do it for an eternity. I know there is a life after this. I’m grateful I know it. It helps me try to do better in this life. When I read about the promises of our Heavenly Father and His Son if we are worthy and obedient, for this life and the life hereafter I think, yes that’s what I want. Our family is forever. Daddy and I were sealed in the temple so you are ours forever. Please don’t ever stop trying and I won’t either. I know it’s hard sometimes, maybe most times. But stop for a minute and look at the people around you. Those that don’t know what’s right and good and true and doing for others instead of to others are not happy. I need the Lord, I need his strength, his love, his guidance, his protection, his spirit. It’s what gets me through the hard times, it’s what gives me hope. It’s what makes the good times even sweeter. There’s only two sides to this life. The Lords and Satans. There isn’t a third choice. We need to be on the side of right and good. I’ve always told you that all I’ve wanted for my children here on this earth is that they make it a better place. Each of you do that and I’m so grateful for that. Thank you for the blessing of being your Mom. Thank you for your love and support on this mission and always. I love each of you so much.
