Aloha.. I am here because Michael broke his toe and he ask me to give this talk. The topic. What does it mean to take upon us the name of Christ? What does it mean to you? Some will say it all starts at baptismal and from then on you renew your covenant at baptism by partaking of the sacrament. Which is all true. But in real life it’s not enough to just do it every week without some type of change. It reminds me of this old man that had a dream about his father that came to him but as soon as his father was going to tell him something the man woke up. Every night for three nights he had the same dream and then it happen. His father said, “what have you done with my name”? I was proud to tell him that I have not done anything to harm his name. It’s my name too and I am proud to have that name too. If are last name was Christ how would we answer that question from the father? What have you done with Christ name? What would be your reply? Mine would be that I am still working on it and doing my best to live so I can report back to the Savoir that I have done nothing to harm your name. I was in the temple the other day and met a young man who was serving there and preparing for a mission. He told me he had been through a hard season, prayed for help, and chose to come home and change his life. He said he knew what it was like to be on the other side and did not ever want to go back. Remember this story about John. Mark was raised on a farm. At very young age his father gave him chores. Milk the cows, feed the chicken and to mend the fence. His father told him that is very important that the cows don’t get out of there area. The field next to the cow was a field of wheat and if the cows eat the wheat they will swell, bloat and die. This one day when he went out to look at the fence he found the fence broken and one of the cows was in the field eating the wheat. He looks hugh. So John ran to get his pa. When John and his Pa found the cow dead and it was three times the size. John was so upset and really didn’t know if he had done something wrong. Remember this story. Let’s get back to the talk. In the sacrament prayer on the bread it doesn’t say we take the name of Christ but says that they are willing to take upon them the name of the Son. Lets read it. Moroni 4:3… There are 92 two words in the sacrament prayer and the 58th word is Willing. Out of all those words I feel willing is the most important word that we can learn from. Willing means ready, eager or prepared to do something. Hummm. Are we ready, eager and prepared to take upon ourselves the name of Christ? By acting the way the Lord Jesus Christ would act. When something arises in our life and we need to make a decision are we ready, eager and prepared to do what the Savoir would do? Let’s go back when we partake of the sacrament today. What did you think about? Have we been ready, eager and prepared to take the name of Christ last week? Ya know ,Were we willing, ready. Eager and prepared.. Or did we make a commitment to honor those willingness times for the next week and so when we turn and report at the sacrament table we can say that we did. Then we will realize the change from week to week and getting closer to taking upon his name. Let’s look at the sacrament prayer on the water. It says that they may witness unto thee, lets read it Moroni 5:2…..There 78 words in the sacrament prayer and the 54th word is witness. What does witness mean? It means to observe, onlooker, eyewitness, watcher and testify. Pay attention to what we are around in life and be willing to testify at all times and in all places that God the father is eternal. Do we do that? Are we willing to make that commitment today that we are going to do that? Well we do that each week when we partake of the sacrament of the water. It not the fact that we have failed but that we keep trying to do and testify. The real meaning of taking upon yourself the name of Christ is that we are mindful of our surroundings and we try to make that effort each day. It took John awhile but he came around e and made the correct choice to change his life for the good with probably a great outcome for himself and his family. While mark honestly did all he could but the outcome didn’t turn out so well because the cow ended up dyeing. So here’s the real meaning behind the meaning of taking upon yourself the name of Christ. Sometimes you just don’t know the outcome but by doing the will of the Lord you are taking upon yourself the name of Christ. We heard once that you can become closer to God if you go to the Temple once week. We didn’t know not how our life would change but we put the challenge to the test. We went to temple not knowing the outcome and now we can tell you that we work in the temple. Was that the outcome? I don’t know but the lord has treasures that he wants you to have. There is a treasure box that he opens when we do certain things in our life. I have one here that is similar to what the Lord has. Use your imagination Let me get it. Oh here it is. This is heavy it seems there are very few that get theses treasures. It’s real dusty. Let me open it. Eerck…. Some of these treasures are happiness, joy, love hidden blessing, knowing the blessing, eternal life and many more. Here a list of what we need to do to get these treasures. Have a missionary over for dinner. Clean your room without mom asking. Say a prayer before I make any decision in life. Call you neighbor or friend and ask them if they need help just because. Share your toys with your brothers or sisters. Be kind to those around you. Ask your children if they need a blessing. Go to the Temple because it is Tuesday. Smile 10 times to 10 different people. When ask for volunteers your hand goes up first. Observe those around you and help someone that needs help. Say hi to someone that is just looking your way. Offer to serve in the nursery. Sit by someone in church and ask them four questions. If you haven’t seen someone in church for while go up and tell that you missed them. Get out of your comfort zone and do something that will make a difference. Prepare to bear you testimony to someone. Say please 5 times, thank you 10 times and smile twice in a day. Make little goals and follow through. I want to leave with my testimony. .
