Many times we are asked to do things for others and our response is, “sure I will do it.” Is this a promise to perform or maybe we call it one more thing added to my list of hundreds of items to do? Do I have time or can I replace it with something I already have planned to do. There are only 24 hours in a day and I just cannot seem to fit it all in. Can the Lord first give the blessing and then I will perform or has he already given me blessings and I have done nothing for him. It seems all I do is not really added up to anything. How can I know that what I do is really worth it? “Today we will go out, even in the rain.” We did our Home teaching this afternoon and we taught a family with four kids ages ranging from 6 to 12. (Just like my daughter Charity’s clan.) My comp gave the lesson on the first Greece Olympic race that lit torches and handed them to team mates to run a race. Like a relay race, but the race was not that who comes in first but who came in first with the torch still lit. If the light went out you lost. You had to run fast but not so fast that you put out your torch. He compared it to life trials. We have to perform and do so many things but we cannot run faster than we are able. Since my comp loves to give the lesson and says he is always prepared to give a lesson every time. I let him but told him I wanted to have a demonstration after the lesson. I brought a candle from wife’s collection and lit it. I said I needed a volunteer to run with this candle or my little torch to the kitchen and back. “Do it fast because others will have the chance to beat your speed.” Joshua the youngest said he could do it. He picked up the candle and just stared at the candle while he moved as fast as he can to the kitchen and back. I thought to myself I hope he doesn’t drop the candle and burn the house down. Then Camryn did it and actually all four children did it and I asked when they were all done, “What was the most common thing they all did”. Joshua said, “They stared at the light as they ran to and fro from the kitchen”. I said. “That is right”. Each one stared at the light to see that it would not go out. How many of us stare at the light and make sure it doesn’t go out of our life? Are we too busy to see the light that is in us and forget where the light comes from? Do we run faster than we are able? Nick my companion said. When they were running back and forth I smelled something nice. It was probably a scented candle of which it was. That was an Interesting comment to stop and smell the roses so to speak instead of being wrapped up in all the commotion of the running. Light or smell it’s all about taking our time to do the right thing. Staying focused to what is most important in our life. I then blew out the candle. The light may go out in our life or it may seem to, but the Lord’s light stays lit for us. He is always ready to help us relight our own light any time we are ready. It’s better to keep that light lit but we all have times that we get discouraged or are over whelmed with work and family. Or just stuff. Taking time to smell the scented candle may give us enough time to relight our life. Stop what you are doing and ask yourself, “do I have the light”? Well do you? I have realized the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the light within us and we can all receive more light by focusing our life more on the Savoir. Then His light will become our light.
