Although we have not met, I am writing to you to assure you that Steve is just fine. I realize how worried you must be -- knowing how far, far away he is from home in a strange environment. But please try not to worry too much -- Brad and I are trying our very best to take good care of him. We are constantly in contact with the Elders -- making sure their needs are met, their stomachs are satisfied, etc. They know they can approach us at any time when they need help so I do hope you are not worrying too much. Elder Roper seems to be very happy here in Saipan. He is always in a good mood, smiling, joking, and working hard to spread the gospel to the people of Saipan. Our two sons, Braden (5) and Belden ([3 1/2?]) adore him. Whenever he comes over, they roll and play with Steve on our living room floor and always look forward to having him over. Someday I, too, must go through what you are now experiencing -- having my sons away for two years in a place I probably never heard of. I only pray that we can bring up our sons the way you brought yours up so that they will be able to adjust to their new environments the way Steve has. You must be proud of him. He is also very proud of both of you and loves you so very much! We are looking forward to meeting you someday soon. Until then, please take good care of yourselves. [4 1/2?] years ago, we lost our nine year old son in a tragic automobile accident a few hours before we were to leave for Disneyland. Since then, we visit Disneyland every year - the magic kingdom that he loved and enjoyed so very, very much.
